Information about Ingleton
Ingleton
is situated just off the A65 trunk road at the confluence of the River Doe and the River Twiss
(which is also known as the River Greta) at the foot of Ingleborough in the
Yorkshire Dales
One of the main attractions near Ingleton are the famous White Scar Caves –
which is well known one of the country’s largest show caves and which contains no less than two underground waterfalls,
a underground stream passages with stalactites and stalagmites and other calcite formations, and the huge Battlefield Cavern which is reached at the end of the guided tour
(though passages extending beyond which are for experienced cavers and pot-holers only).
Popular walks from the the village include the ascents of Ingleborough and Whernside
(which are two of Yorkshire’s celebrated “Three Peaks” – the other being the nearby Pen-y-ghent).
and there is also the famous
Ingleton Waterfalls Walk.
The fmaouns walk starts in the village and runs up the valley of the River Doe (which is also known as the River Greta) taking in Swilla Glen,
the waterfalls of Pecca Falls (including Pecca Twin Falls and Hollybush Spout) and Thornton Force before returning to the village down the valley of the River Twiss
(taking in Beezley Falls, Snow Falls, Rival Falls, Baxenhill Gorge and also Cat Leap Falls on the tributary of Skirwith Beck).
Back in the village of Ingleton itself there is a pleasant heated open air swimming pool (which is open during the summer months only),
various tea shops, pubs, cafes, and caving shops.
There are also several guest houses and hotels situated in and around the village,
and Ingleton makes an excellent base for touring the Yorkshire Dales, and is also within easy reach of the
English Lake District.
