A Few of the Common Myths about Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum medicine (shortened to B.tox) has become established in Sydney society and has become a grooming necessity for people in the city.

Even so I never fail to be stunned when I listen to the various urban legends and half truths which surround this treatment. Here are some of the common myths that I encounter in my work as a doctor at Star Cosmetic Medicine located in Pyrmont, Sydney.

Mistake # 1: I might lose the ability to express emotions!

Research shows there are sixty or so muscles in the human face. These muscles usually work in harmony, however from excessive movement expression lines can begin to appear. When an excess of B.tox is employed the musculature that are responsible for the expression of emotions may become a little less taut. By and large physicians use relatively small quantities to will result in you appearing refreshed, yet you will of course maintain your normal expression.

We strongly recommend you review our prime page for Sydney Botox hints.

Indeed the correct amount of B.tox in the appropriate place means one can get a softening of any fine lines without any compromise in facial expression.

Mistake # 2: Botulinum is a toxin!
This to a small extent is correct. Botulinum Toxin Type A is the correct pharmaceutical terminology. An overdose can end up in loss of muscle tone and can even cause serious illness.

Chemists have a well-known phrase that states ‘everything is poisonous – all depending on the dose’. Every medication in a big enough dose will make you sick. Water can kill you if too much is taken.

Mistake # 3: B.tox is painful!
At Star Cosmetic Medicine the doctor will use needles finer than hair. Some people have compared the shots to mosquito bites. It certainly is less sore than something like a blood test.

Mistake # 4: My face will lose sensation!
False. B.tox affects the junction between the nerve and the facial muscle, not sensate nerves. B.tox only affects the ability to relax muscles.

Mistake # 5. You can’t stop getting B.tox otherwise you will have worse fine lines and wrinkles than earlier!
This is also false.

You can expect the treatment to be effective for up to 3 months. Further injections tend to last a little longer. Eventually as muscle strength builds up again – the lines will return bit by bit. However they will certainly be no more pronounced than when you began.

In fact any lines should be be softer than if you hadn’t had B.tox – even when you don’t continue the treatment. This is obviously the case due to the fact you have given your skin a ‘wrinkle holiday’ when the B.tox was active.
